The most effective way to strike a balance between our economic, social, and environmental responsibilities is to adopt the practice of sustainable development in our business operations, meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations.

We have established a tradition of responsible and forward-looking stewardship. We employ world-class operational practices and take a leadership role in key areas such as water, energy/climate and sustainable sourcing.

Furlani Foods’ policy is to ensure our work is conducted in an honest, ethical, and legal manner. Furlani Foods is a member of, and is certified by, the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a non-governmental organization, which promotes the growth and use of sustainable palm oil through global standards and engagement.

Responsible Corporate Behavior

As a proud bakery manufacturer, we must comply with a number of regulations and laws, customer requirements and of course our own internal requirements. To ensure that we meet these obligations and more, we have implemented a robust environmental management system with policies, standards, procedures and practices and training across our manufacturing facilities. We ensure that our team members are knowledgeable and trained in standard operating procedures to achieve set performance goals. Beyond compliance, we recognize that as a baking company we use natural resources and energy to make our products.

Reduction Targets

We continually strive to minimize our impact on the natural environment and have set annual reduction targets within our bakeries for the following areas:

• Water usage
• Electricity consumption
• Gas consumption
• Solid waste

Achieving Targets

To achieve these targets, we are continuously looking for better and more efficient ways to run our bakeries and pack our products such as:

• Conducting lighting retrofits to LED’s to make our equipment even more energy efficient
• Upgrading compressor systems
• Optimizing and upgrading steam systems
• Installing new equipment that is designed to be more energy efficient and operate with less waste
• Working with local utilities to understand where the energy is sourced and how to become more energy efficient
• Working with suppliers and vendors to minimize waste and improve efficiencies
• Improving day to day operational practices through training, coaching, and auditing
• Using recycled board for carton packaging and reducing our packaging
