The Toxic Reduction Act (TRA) was introduced in 2009 and was designed “to prevent pollution and protect human health and the environment by reducing the use and creation of toxic substances.” (Section 1(a) of the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009).
This act requires Ontario Manufacturers to:
- Track and quantify the toxic substances used or created at the facility.
- Develop a reduction plan of their use and creation of these substances.
- Make available a summary of their reduction plan to the public.
